Our Virginia Trip

We took our second to the last trip before the baby is due. It was a great weekend as were able to enjoy the warm weather and sun in VA. We visited Matt (Josh’s brother) and Amie (Matt’s girlfriend). While we were there we went to the Virginia Animal Safari, bowling, and did some shopping (not to mention eating out a bunch).

We all had a great time at the Animal Safari. First we rode in the car and fed the animals from our white buckets…some of the animals enjoyed the white bucket more than the food. Ian had a blast. He was laughing so much his lunch almost came up…good thing it didn’t as the animals smelled bad enough. After feeding the animals we walked around the animal park and saw the animals in the exhibits… I enjoyed watching the spider monkeys interact with each other.

We kept the windows closed when these guys were near...Can you blame us?

After the Safari we took a ride on the ridge of the mountains. I think it was called Blue Ridge.

We went laser light bowling after dinner in town.

Our new addition to the kitchen

Josh installed our new stove top and oven in our kitchen. The new unit has so many gadgets, I know I'll be using the manual for sometime. It's very exciting to not only have a regular sized oven but our wall oven that came with the house. It will be very useful when we have large holiday meals or parties.

Below is the cooktop that came with the house.

Below is the hole after Josh removed the cooktop and cut the cabinets out. It wasn't a pretty sight!

Here is our new cooktop and stove. It was an awesome buy!

I love having a house and being able to do (sometimes fun) projects. After renting for 4 years, we were more than ready to buy a home. I'm thankful to have a husband who talented and capable of doing all of our home projects.

So the count down begins...

We are very excited to have another little one in our family. I think the hardest part about this pregnancy is the anticipation of the big day. I really like to plan things and with this I don't have control over the entire situation. Right now I'm about 33 weeks. It's really gone fast with thinking about the move, moving, unpacking and getting the house together. Ian has kept me pretty busy throughout the pregnancy, so I think it's helped with being active. Here are some pictures of my belly...

This past weekend I went to Babies R Us and bought a Jeep Stroller for the baby. We really loved using the Jeep stroller for Ian and wanted to get one to use with this little one. The big tires really helped with the rocky terrain and I can see us going "off road" once the warmer weather hits (and the baby's is able to take the bouncing).

Visiting our first preschool for Ian

Ian is very excited to go to school. WE are very excited for Ian to go to school. We've been working at home with him, but nothing can replace being in a classroom with other kids. Tonight we had the opportunity to attend the open house at the school. We were able to see the preschool classes and talk to some of the teachers. The classrooms were decorated with the children's work of art, projects and activities they do on a daily basis. The classroom Ian would be in has a computer, an imagination area, activity centers, a science center, and classroom pets...just to name a few. He will also have music and gym class. It will be exciting for Ian come September when he's busy learning and making lots of new friends.

It's almost Spring!!

Ian and I are very excited for Spring to arrive. We had a short warm spell last week, but the weather has turned cold and rainy. As much as I would love one more snow storm (mostly so Ian can snowboard and snow tube again), I'm very eager for the warmer weather to hit. It was wonderful being able to do things outside. We were cleaning up the garden and the yard. Josh was able to cut and stack wood. Hopefully it won't be too cold much longer.

Last week I went for my 32 week appt. and everything is measuring okay and seems to be on the right track. It's amazing to think I have about 8 weeks left. We've been getting ready for the baby's arrival by going through clothing and washing everything. Last weekend I went through all of Ian's clothes (or the ones we still have) and organized them into specific sizes so that it will be easier once I need them for the baby. There's still tons of things to do, but I guess I have 8 more weeks to do it.

Last week I also joined MOPS. It's a group for mothers of preschoolers. We meet twice a month and have fellowship, snacks and crafts. It's a fun time for moms and the kids get to do activities in their classes. Ian seemed to like it. It's really the first time to be in a class setting (for an extended length of time). It was nice to meet other moms in the area. I was surprised by the number of moms who stayed home with their kids. I'm thankful that I'm able to stay home and enjoy the younger years with the kids.

Josh and I have been talking about all of the projects we would like to do to the house, here is the list:

1. Redo Ian's bedroom and hallway: drywall the ceiling, paint, rip up carpet, clean hardwood floors, redo crown molding

2. Redo the 1/2 bathroom: tear down wall paneling, paint, design new "small corner" sink (we are still thinking of ideas for this one), maybe some tiling

3. Install our new stainless steel drop in stove and oven. Josh found a great buy at Sears...I think it was a floor model.

4. Build Master Bedroom, Bathroom, Closet (along with hallway and bringing the washer/dryer to the first floor). Plans are still being developed. This will be in our current breezeway. I have no idea what this is going to entail. Lots of hard work!

5. Stain the house

6. Get a couple of tons of stone for the area next to the driveway.

7. Re-sloping the ground around the house so we don't have as much water in the basement.

8. Try to plant a garden and maintain the landscaping around the house.

9. Build a deck...I don't think we are going to attempt this this year.

10. Dig out some of the dirt and rock in the basement.

11. Do something with the full bathroom...maybe just a coat of paint.

I know it's a long list, but it's something to aim for. I have no idea how much we'll get done with the new baby, but we'll try!

I'll try to post before and after pictures. I haven't been very good at this in the past but it's great to see the differences.
