Just A Memory

Tonight as I was reading Ian bedtime stories it really hit me about the changes we've made to the once pink room. I wanted to show the before pictures of the room.

The picture taken below is Ian's room when we first purchased the house. The ceiling tiles and old fan really dates the room.
The border came off within a few weekends of owning the home. I just couldn't let Ian have flowers in his room.

We put the new fan and light in when we were doing the electrical work in the attic (just before the insulation when it), but other than that and the missing border everything is the same...but not for long!

The blue carpet was installed sometime around March 11, 1974...Why the exact date?? We found a piece of newspaper on the seam of the carpet. The carpet was older than Josh and really needed to go!

We put up plastic to try and minimize the mess of the dry wall dust. No more ceiling tiles! Thanks to Josh's hard work the ceiling is now dry walled and looks great!

The carpet below acted as padding for the blue carpet. We're thinking this carpet was put in around the late 50s or early 60s. The black stuff is the foam from the carpet. We found that it was glued to the hard wood floors. Our original thought was to clean the hard wood floors and put an area rug in the room (like we did in Nathan's room), but with the lack of time we went with carpeting the room instead of getting the floor refinished.

Josh removing the rest of the carpet after he finished the ceiling and painting the walls.

Thank goodness for husbands!

What a weekend!

This past weekend was packed with activities!
My weekend began on Friday as I went to our community wide yard sales. I went with a bunch of my friends and it was a fun time scouting for great deals. Ian had his own money and found a few things: a flash light and tool kit for $.25 (best deal of the day), a fire truck for $.50, and a Bob the Builder toy for $.75. I found some clothes and a game for Ian and Nathan. I was very excited to buy nice looking things for such a discounted price! Afterwards we took the kids to the playground for a picnic. The kids didn't last that long as they needed to take rest. Ian came home and wanted to play with his new game. It was nice to get out of the heat. I actually got a little burnt on my left arm (from driving all morning). After resting, we headed off to kid's bowling at Laurel Lanes. Ian joined a kids league and every Friday he'll go and bowl with his friend Noah. We went to a Pancake Supper at the Lutheran Church in town before going fishing at Hamilton Lake. Josh caught three trout and they were large enough to bring home. It was a beautiful night sitting by the lake watching the sun go down. When we got home Josh cooked the fish and they were actually very tasty.

Saturday morning we woke up and headed out to the yard sales. Josh wanted to go since he had to work on Friday. We didn't find much but it was great seeing the areas we don't normally drive through. We were out until 1-2pm and at that time I had enough getting in and out of the Jeep. When we got back to the house I took a nap and Josh worked on chipping stuff and mowing the lawn, and putting new breaks on my car. After dinner we went to the rails to trails to teach Ian how to ride on two wheels. He did pretty good, Josh left off a few times and he rode alone for a little ways. He still needs to work on balancing his body. He didn't last long because he was so tired (he didn't take a nap with me) and was annoyed by the gnats in the air.

Sunday morning we made a nice breakfast, Cornmeal Blueberry pancakes with bananas on top and Bacon. They were pretty good and a nice change from plain pancakes. The entire day we worked on the house and finished projects that were started. We were able to get tons of things done today! All week Josh was working on matching the color for the crown molding to the wood work in the house and he was finally able to match it up (after buying 5 or 6 different colors of stain and experimenting with layering different colors to the same piece of wood). The crown molding looks great!

This is how our day went!

The first thing we worked on was finishing Ian's room.

1.Put the crown molding up

2.Updated the electrical outlets, switches, and plates

3.Put the closet system in

4.Cut the closet doors and the bedroom door down.

It was tons of work but it's finished.

5. Filled Ian's room with clothes, books and toys!

The second area of the house was the recently painted hallway with new light fixture.

1. Put up the crown molding

2. Updated the light switch

The third area of the house was the kitchen.
1. Put the molding around our new stove and oven. Josh did an excellent job with matching the stain!

2. Installed a stainless steel hood over the stove.

Dinner Break

Josh and Ian played ball outside

Josh went fishing while Ian and I took a break at the house

Bubble bath for Ian and facial for me :)

Josh got home (he caught one fish but let him go)

Josh worked on his Jeep and put his smaller tires back on. He wanted to drive it to work since it's suppose to be 90 degrees out. It's great being able to take the top off the Jeep!

Here are some pictures of the flowers around the house. I love walking around the house while being surprised by each new plant that pops up!

5 days to go

I know most babies aren't delivered on their due dates, but I have 5 days until my due date, May 2. It's very exciting either way because I could go any day or up to a week after my due date. My next appointment is on Wednesday and my doctor will check to see if I'm dilated at all. If I am she'll bring me in to speed up the process. I'm not looking forward to the drive there (if I'm in active labor). There isn't much around on the way there and I would really prefer not to deliver in the Jeep or a barn on the side of the road. Wish us luck!

Surprise!!

Today Ian and I were going to a play date at Sarah's house, but it turned out the girls planned a surprise baby shower for me. Boy was I surprised. I didn't really put it together...even with the balloon on the mailbox...or when I walked in and they said "Surprise." I only realized what they were talking about when I saw the gifts sitting there. I did get teary eyed because it's difficult for others to pull off surprises on me. I'm very thankful for the friends I've made in the area and I look forward to creating more memories with them.

Easter Day

The Easter Bunny came to visit us at our new house. The Easter Bunny filled Ian's basket with lots of candy!

After going to church, we came back to the house to find the eggs the Easter Bunny left in the yard. In the eggs were filled with different types of candy and pieces to a puzzle Ian needed to put together. The puzzle was a picture of a helicopter...and guess what the Easter Bunny left for Ian?? A remote control helicopter! Ian spent most of the day playing with helicopter (and eating chocolate too).

Decorating Easter Eggs

Decorating Easter eggs have come a long way compared to when I was a kid. They not only have dye, but they have wrapping foils, stickers, beads, sparkle paint and sparkles. We had a blast making each and every egg different.

A Campout and 4 Wheeling

This past Friday night Josh and Ian went to Rausch Creek Off-Road Park with Brian, Bryce and Grandpa Segaline. They all slept in our enclosed trailer and then on Saturday went 4 wheeling. Ian brought his Jeep that Josh built him and had a blast climbing over rocks, riding through puddles and driving over the teeter totter.

Here are some pics from their trip:

Once wasn't enough for Ian, he wanted to go through the water again!!!

Now pictures of the big guys!

Yes, there is a Jeep in there.
Who doesn't love mud.

I'm thankful the guys had the chance to get away before the big day. I know Nathan will love 4 wheeling with Daddy and his big brother, but he'll have to wait a little while before he can climb the big rocks.
